  • Operation: P.R.I.D.E

    Funded Jun 8, 2022

WOW! Thanks so much for pouring your love into our project. With all requested materials we will pour these sweet rewards into our school P.R.I.D.E store for our students to earn each week as they build their daily points. Also we were able to support individual teachers who have students who are unable to transition to school store due to overstimulation by creating a mini store within their classrooms. Teachers with the mini stores in the classroom connect each reward to our schools PBIS. I appreciate you all so much and wish you awesomeness.”

  • Bringing ColorsThrough COVID-19

    Funded Mar 23, 2022

Thanks so much for pouring your love into our project. Our seniors were really struggling to move forward and take those few happy steps towards graduation. After our creative painting event our seniors were able to decompress and express themselves through their art. Our seniors were able to to connect with each other, foster friendship and strengthen their sense of community. I truly beleive they walked away knowing they will always be apart of our school even after graduation.

During the event each senior to get a canvas bag filled with all the art supplies needed to participate in a school-wide virtual paint session. The paint session focus on the idea of a "Brighter future" and how our seniors would like to see themselves in it. We ultimately framed and hung all the student work. From the bottom of my heart thanks so much for everything you have done for our students and community. Your awesome next level. =D”

  • Operation: Fresh

    Funded Feb 11, 2022

Thank you so much for pouring your love into our project. We were able to achieve our goal of providing fresh clothing to those students in our community who's family lack the resources to afford them on their own. I have seen students come to school with holes in their clothing. Even worse, I have seen students come in without underwear or without an extra pair when they are known to have toiling accidents. Now we are able to offer that support with for our students in their times of need. This all thanks to your big hearts and support of what we do. You're so awesome and we appreciate you to the max =D”

  • Operation: Take a Breath

    Funded Jan 13, 2022

Thank you so much for pouring so much love into our project. All requested materials will first go to priority students who are easily overstimulated, struggle with regulating emotions, and need extra support in managing disruptive behavior. Our school employs a PBIS program called "PRIDE" (Practice safety, Respect, In location, Do the responsible thing, and Engage in learning). Students are earning points throughout the day as they follow PRIDE. As students earn their points, they will reach different tiers of awards and prizes such as one of the requested sensory supports. Each resource can mean the difference between a focused student and one that is overwhelmed by the world around them. I appreciate you all to the max, your awesome!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. S. Rodriguez

  • Operation: Jingle Bells!

    Funded Dec 4, 2021

Wow, thanks so much for pouring your love into this project. When our students become agitated, overstimulated, and/or are in need of a break we believe giving them the space and time to move their bodies can help to release that energy.

With a lack of space in classrooms, the small handheld tools like the fidget poppers, slime, and sensory balls can provide our students with the necessary physical and mental workout to help stay focused with the use of only their hands. Our students were so excited to receive their sensory gifts. So from the bottom of my heart thanks so much for standing besides us in supporting our incredible students. I appreciate you to the Max =D”

  • Operation: Give Thanks

    Funded Oct 16, 2021

Thank you, thank you, and another big thank you for pouring so much love into this project Operation: Give thanks. One of the most devastating effects of COVID-19 has been the sheer number of people it has left without reliable access to affordable, nutritious food. Even prior to the pandemic, Feeding America estimated about 11.1% of New York State residents and 16.9% of children experienced food insecurity, meaning they at times lacked access to enough food for an active, healthy life. As a result about one in five children in the Bronx and Brooklyn experienced food insecurity, compared to about one in seven children in Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

With this project we were able to provide a gift bag filled with food to our families living in temporary housing for thanksgiving. Our families were overjoyed with the amount of food items in the care bags and expressed their deep gratitude for our school community being able to do this for them. Thank you for being apart of our school community and supporting along side us our incredible superhero students. Wishing you all awesomeness.”

Sometimes the solution to improving student success can be as simple as offering students essentials beyond the classroom. The response to COVID-19 has impacted all of us in unprecedented ways. Among the drastic changes that have taken place, school closures have brought many uncertainties and concerns for our community. The coronavirus has spread through urban areas like the Bronx faster than rural areas and has disproportionately affected African-American and Hispanic communities. As a result of the challenges that arose out of this pandemic, we have discovered new ways to engage, connect with, and support students and families during this time of remote learning and social distancing we would never have thought possible. Therefore, providing my students with everyday essentials such as soap, shampoo and conditioner, body lotion, laundry detergent, and hand sanitizer is crucial to their basic needs. We know that if students' basic needs are not met, it interferes with their learning. There are biological requirements for human survival, such as food, drink, shelter, clothing, warmth, and sleep. If these needs are not satisfied, the human body cannot function optimally. Maslow's Hierarchy of needs considered physiological needs the MOST important as all the other needs become secondary until these needs are met. Invest in our students and the future of the Bronx. With your support we will be able to provide our students with the essentials to keep them healthy and safe.
