  • Dual Language Light Tables!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you so much for the generous donations! You have allowed our students to flourish in STEM activities as a result of your giving to our project. Our students have been actively engaged in seeing how light affects objects. They have also been able to manipulate and discover different textures in the bins that the light tables hold. As a result, they have been able to study cause and effect relationships, and engage in other related activities to their current units of study. Thank you so very much for allowing us this opportunity. We appreciate it so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Novak

  • Listening Centers for Language and Literacy!

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

Thank you so much for giving our students the opportunity to have functioning listening centers. An important part of our early childhood classroom includes the centers in the classrooms and we have many to choose from, but for the past few years, our Listening Centers lacked. We did not have working players and what we did have was completely outdated. We also had limited amounts of books with CDs, and what we did have was not age-appropriate or even a complete set. With the players purchased, the students are able to use the Bluetooth component to connect to the technology that we received from a different grant from our principal. The students are able to connect the player to the internet, where we are able to find any book or song of the teacher's choosing (as the teacher must monitor the internet use.) The fact that we have Bluetooth speakers means that the children can have limited screen time, because they can listen to the book from the iPad without watching the iPad (which is how some teachers had to do it in the past.) The children are loving the new and updated speakers, and now they are able to combine their auditory and visual skills as they venture off into kindergarten literacy readiness, and it is all thanks to you. We deeply appreciate you.”

  • Exercising With Energized Kids!

    Funded Jan 8, 2021

Thank you all so much from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity. The children absolutely love the gym now - what was originally a simple, empty space for children to run around aimlessly in circles and play boring "duck duck goose," is now filled with laughter, excited screaming, and newfound talents. The children have gotten so creative with the tunnels, turning them into magical caves. Other children have realized that they have a natural talent and love for basketball or softball, as they now have the tools to discover those talents. Even the hopscotch rug is something children are lining up to hop on! It warmed my heart, not only to be the recipient of such overwhelming generosity but also to be able to witness the amazing affect it has had on our children in the short time they've been exposed to our new gym. I wish you could all be here to see it in person! Our gym is finally alive with physical fitness, fun, sharing, taking turns, newfound talents, and a love of gross motor time. Thank you all so very very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Novak

The NYCDOE has taken many actions toward fostering a world where people are increasingly more aware of their health, including and extending to physical, mental, social-emotional, and beyond. As a Pre-K specific school, we are responsible for the students' very first experience with schooling and education. As part of our mission as Pre-K educators, we begin to cultivate the ideas that begin students' educational lives. As such, we have academic and social-emotional curricula that we utilize during the day. However, being that we are fully equipped with those resources, I've decided to dedicate my specific project toward where my school lacks: the physical fitness and health of my students. Without feeling physically well, it is impossible for students to be successful at learning and using their brains to think, analyze, describe, create, and all the other many attributes we require from our students on a daily basis. Thus, it is imperative that our students begin to recognize the importance of maintaining a physically healthy body. One of the ways students can do this is to make the most of our "active play" time. In Pre-K, students are not merely sent to recess like they are in older grades; it is a specific, instructional time where teachers are given almost one full hour to invigorate students through exercise and active play. Although we have a beautiful gym, we lack the necessary resources to make the students' active play experience the best one possible. What little resources we do have is broken, with no ways of fixing; there are balls without air and no pump; there is a small basketball hoop that is broken, there are balance "beams" that are flattened, etc. Please help our teachers to create the gym and physical fitness goals of our dreams! We would be forever grateful!
