  • Unlock Your Inner Chef

    Funded Aug 10, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations. With all of your donations, our students were able to have access to kitchen equipment that can help them develop their independent living skills, widen their love for eating, and most importantly reduce food waste. On top of learning how to cook and operate equipment, the students enjoyed working together to the best of their abilities, and enjoyed consuming their finished product. We have marginally decreased the amount of food waste by using unopened school food items that are least of their favorite by reinventing them and giving new purpose for consumption. The fruit juice and fruit cups, for example, used for smoothies are always a hit and everyone enjoys them.

Whenever the kids see the kitchen tools in front of the class, they raise their hands to volunteer in the food preparation. They also like being in charge of picking the next person to come up to the front and follow the next step. The cooking class has been the most enjoyable activity for our students.

With the success of this project, we are hoping that our students can start earning money by selling our finished product within the school, to reinforce the concept of money as an important life skill.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Karen

  • The Class That Cleans Together, Learns Together

    Funded Jan 10, 2023

This project has taught our students not only life skills such as learning how to operate simple household cleaning tools but also taught them how to be responsible and accountable for their actions when it comes to keeping our classroom clean and tidy especially after each meal. It has become easier to demonstrate the cause and effect of keeping their place tidy while eating, will not require them intensive cleaning.

When our students saw the cleaning materials, most of our students raised their hands wanting to be the first one to try the vacuum cleaner. Since then, after each meal, we will always have students who is willing to vacuum the laminate floor and the carpet area. And we are hearing feedback from parents when we send them a picture of their child happily helping to clean the classroom.

As we constantly working on building a community inside our classroom, my next target is establish this project to be a peer supported activities, to support their peer who would need physical support to operate the cleaning tools.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Karen

  • Let There Be Light

    Funded May 17, 2022

Our students with exeptional talents has couple of sensory needs that a regular classroom setting with bright white lights may seem to be overwhelming for them. The main core of our program is to teach our students to read or read with approximation while using their finger to track word by word. When we turn off our classroom lights and turn on their personal light it set up our room into a more conducive learning environment when reading the text. This setting narrows down the their focus on the text and tunes out other environmental distractions. Because of the personal lights, our students are able to improve their reading experience by having longer attention span. The personal lights also help reduce students' behavioral challenges in the classroom because of the calmness aspect it brings.

What is so excited about this new product is that, it is user friendly meaning, any student with different levels of physical and cognitive abilities will be able to operate it with ease using its touch sensor interface. It is also very light and handy so students can be assigned for the distribution and collection of the personal lights as part of their functional living skills practice in class.

Most of our students are warmed to this technology, they get excited when they get one, they feel motivated to start reading when their lights are on.”

  • Precious Times are Precious Moments!

    Funded Oct 7, 2021

The photo printer is such a great addition in our classroom, we are able to create school projects that improves the self-image of our students. We were able documents group activities and individual art pieces to display in our memory board. We have visitors that would come in and celebrate special occasions with us that deserves a precious way of remembering them. The memory board print outs was placed by the door where students and staff can take a look at upon entering the room. It brings so much positive energy to the individuals who are seeing the pictures.

The Bean Bags is another great addition to our class. Our two students with walkers were able to join there friends on the floor without risking there safety. They were able to have equitable access to our library/play area despite having a small space in the classroom.

And lastly, the pencil grips such great to help our students to improve their handwriting skills. Again, thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Brain Pop Jr. And Music Are Pop!

    Funded Feb 1, 2021

This project tremendously helped our students with moderate to severe disabilities to have access to the BrainPopJr program, an online curriculum, especially during Distance Learning. It has increased the engagement of students in our daily class on Zoom Meetings.

The Musical instruments helped our students to enjoy our circle time. When they are holding the instruments when singing and dancing not only do they learn our lesson but also they have become safe to themselves and others.

The Teacher's Pay Teacher gave my students the opportunity to access a curriculum that is differentiated according to their IEP goals.

From the bottom of our hearts, Team Room 10 would like to thank you for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Karen
