  • Tamping My Emotions

    Funded Apr 7, 2021

I have used the books in several ways. First, I have used the books in my classroom guidance lessons to help expand feeling vocabulary and to provide strategies to manage those feelings. Many of the students are unaware of the many emotions that a person can have. The students have learned that all feelings are okay.

Secondly, I have used the books in the school counseling library where students are able to go and select a book to help them deal with situations that make them feel a certain way. The students can acquire skills on their own and at their own pace.

Lastly, I have used the books in my individual counseling sessions to help student handle their emotions. The students are excited when they can connect with a character in the books and realize that there are other people that feel the same way. I see students in the hallway who tell me that they have used the strategies that they have learned from the books.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

  • Thumbs Up for Great Work Ethics

    Funded Jan 20, 2021

Parents reached out to me about how their children were impacted by COVID and not being able to come back into the school building. The students were feeling discouraged, sad, and unmotivated. Many of the students' grades had declined.

In the past, we have always recognized students for being responsible. The purpose of these incentives was not only to encourage them to do their schoolwork, but to let them know that we care about their learning and social and emotional wellbeing.

What we saw as we started to recognize students was that they started to care about their schoolwork and succeeding. Thank you for your kindness and your donation to make this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

  • Expressing My Social and Emotional Needs

    Funded Jan 15, 2021

The headphones were used in small counseling groups so that students were free to express their thoughts and feelings while they were at home. Many of our students have siblings, therefore most of the students lack privacy. In the past, when we were in the school building, we were able to enforce the confidentiality rule and students were able to come down for the small groups with other students who were feeling or experiencing similar problems.

With the use of theses headphones, students were able to share their thoughts and feelings without being embarrassed. Within these groups, the students were able to express their social and emotional needs. They were also able to learn coping strategies to overcome some of their obstacles. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

  • Studying Made Easy and Fun

    Funded Jan 6, 2021

The students are using the study tips from the books to improve their grades. I have seen a difference in their level of confidence when they take tests. I am hearing statements, like "I am smart", "I know this information", and "I can do it". The books have changed negative attitudes about studying to positive attitudes.

Many of the students were discouraged due to virtual learning and not being in the school building, but these books have motivated them. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

Some of the students are having a difficult time with focusing and studying. I would like to help them by offering study tips virtually. I have found some great books that would be helpful and interactive. This would help students improve their grades, stay focus, improve their self-esteem, reach their goals and give them a sense of accomplishment. While teaching students study skills in their virtual classrooms, I can integrate interactive books into their learning. This will give students examples of how to study and effective study skills that work.
