I have found that these three titles (Chew on This; Chasing Lincoln's Killer; and The Graveyard Book) are great for inspiring teen readers in junior high school. Chew on This explains the history of the fast food industry while making students more aware of what actually goes into those nuggets. Chapters are short but informative and detailed, and students--even the reluctant ones--walk away from the book appreciating what they have learned. Chasing Lincoln's Killer offers a riveting account of the moments before and after President Lincoln's murder that reads like you are watching a Netflix special. The action is suspenseful and gritty at times, which is perfect for those teens who want the visceral in their historical details. And The Graveyard Book tells the story of a special child who gets adopted by ghosts and other supernatural beings. While being the only piece of fiction in the bunch, the story is for those who want to build upon our imagination while keeping us grounded in our humanity.
