As our students return to in-person learning, they are faced with the challenges of having to re-acclimate to a more structured learning environment than the ones they have been used to in the past year due to quarantine learning. Many of my students are struggling socially, academically, behaviorally, and emotionally as they navigate this shift in their lives. Over the past month, I have seen a spike in anxiety, anger, and fear, and the number of visits to both my school counseling office and the administrator's offices are on the rise. This means students are being sent out of the classroom and are missing instructional time. My goal is to provide each of the classrooms at my elementary school with a calm down corner - a space with tools to help students return their bodies and minds to a place ready for learning without having to leave the classroom. They fidget bin I have selected is a set of 27, providing an assortment of different styles of calming strategies for students. The spinner tools will also help student to learn options for emotional outlets connected to a broad range of emotions. Please help my students as they build continue to strengthen their resilience and learn how to cope after a very trying year.
