Diversified Reading
Funded Dec 23, 2020I cannot being to express how thankful I am for the addition of so many new, diverse books in our classroom library. I come from a family of teachers. This being said, there were always books around growing up and when I started my classroom library, many of those books from my childhood and from my parent's classroom followed me to my classroom. Unfortunately, many of these books are old and as embarrassed as I am to admit it, full of white character. Many of my students were not seeing themselves represented in the literature we were reading.
That is why this generous donation is such a big deal to so many of my students. Not only are we giving the classroom library a facelift, but we also are making sure that not just this year of students feel represented but students for years to come! This gift will stretch for all the students that peruse the classroom library.
Also, much of teaching reading is passages with a question set. Having books, real life handheld books, that engage the students makes reading so much more fun. In particular, my students were excited about The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, which a nonfiction story. Excitement about nonfiction is truly a great accomplishment. Myself and students for years to come will be grateful for the wonderful donation.”

Virtual Classroom Materials
Funded Dec 23, 2020I cannot express how grateful I am for these new virtual materials I was able to purchase with my Teachers Pay Teachers gift card. Sometimes, it is difficult to engage the learners in the virtual world. With the Teacher Pay Teacher gift card, I was able to purchase task cards for a variety of skills we have been working on, particularly in reading. By using task cards, which are quick, the students are more engaged and determine what they know.
By being able to quickly analyze my students knowledge, I can provide feedback that helps them grow as a learner. This is imperative in a virtual world where I can't always see the students working out the problem as I could in the classroom. But, by having an engaging and quick check in, the students are better able to show me what they know.
Currently, I make the reading materials for the entire fifth grade, so these materials are not just helping my students, but the entire fifth grade at Larrymore Elementary school. This gift continues to stretch to more learners.”
With gratitude,
