RE: Thank you for Bridging the Gap with Technology
"Bridging the gap with technology" is a huge success. The students are engaged and excited about using the IPads which have color coded cases (red, blue, green & purple). Following are pictures of my 3rd graders utilizing the IPads to participate in digital simulations about Forces and Motion. The second group is learning about Maglev Trains, (magnetic levitating trains). The third group is reading or listening to the books that are a part of the Amplify program. Finally, the fourth group is working on vocabulary review. Prior to the new IPads, the students were limited by using the classroom smart board for whole group Instruction.
The donated IPads helped to bridge the technology gap at PS42Q. As a matter of fact, this was my first attempt at soliciting help from an outside vendor asking for classroom resources. I didn't think we would receive the IPads, but I am thankful the response was positive on behalf of me and the students. The two classroom computers didn't work and my two old laptops couldn't run the simulations or read the books. The students were very eager and excited to see and use the new IPads. They were aware of the endless possibilities. They understood that the devices were a reward and incentive to work harder and cooperatively.
One of the joys of the newly acquired technology included watching the students' interact and teach their peers how to use the simulations and solve problems. Don't worry; we were being safe as you can see: we maintained safety guidelines and had the students sanitize the computers after each use. Consequently, the IPads are being used by grades 1-5. The IPads are a success. They have helped with grouping, utilizing the simulations, research, collaboration, learning styles, and differentiated instructions. Even though the school has now provided IPads to each student, the students still prefer to use Donor's Choose colored coded versions! Again, thank you on behalf of the students and me for your gift of making a difference.
