  • Reliable Laptop for Effective Teaching

    Funded May 4, 2021

I teach Journalism at my school and using technology is definitely a huge part of it. For many years, students have been using my desktop and/or a laptop I bought 5 years ago to create the newsletter and/or designs for the paper. As time passes, many programs and resources have been created in which students have shown an interest in using. Unfortunately, since the devices were older and didn't have a lot of memory on them, they were never able to upgrade or enhance the newsletter. Everything changed when this wonderful device was donated to our class. Students have blossomed in so many ways that it makes me proud to say - they have accomplished and achieved so many goals since then.

Students started using Canva to create their designs, they find resources they can download into the device and store them for other stories, and they convert files into PDF to publish their masterpieces! They enjoy using such an updated device with no limitations.

The Editor and Chief of the class has taken over and shown her leadership skills and has trained others to use the device as well. It has been a great experience for the entire class.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Castillo

  • AirPods for Quality Sound

    Funded May 11, 2021

It has truly been such a great experience using this device. I have been able to ZOOM with my students with such success, not to mention, stress-free! Prior to receiving this awesome device, there were always so many glitches and sound issues. It was frustrating and it took up a lot of my teaching time. Now, by simply connecting the air pods to my computer, students hear me without an echo and my voice sounds loud and clear.

When Covid hit, students had to adjust to learning from home. It was very hard on them and having to deal with technology issues didn't help either. I remember how every time I was reviewing text dependent questions or reading a story, there was always a sound issue. When students would tell me they couldn't hear me well, I tried adjusting my earbuds by putting the cord closer to my mouth but it never helped. I tried asking the students the questions again without the earbuds and they would hear an echo. It was aggravating on both ends so I decided to research for solutions. That's when I discovered that by using air pods and connecting them directly to my device, it would be cordless and I wouldn't have to worry about anything!

Since then, all has been fabulous! There have been no glitches or any concerns with sound. It has helped save time and keep the flow going while teaching. I am forever grateful for this donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Castillo

The pandemic has brought on real challenges for both teachers and students. Teachers and students everywhere had to go to school online and are learning how to use technology more than ever. Being a teacher, I had to find effective digital programs, learn how to use Zoom and Microsoft Teams, and figure out how to keep my students engaged when teaching them. In October, teachers moved back into the school building where many of us are teaching both students physically in the classroom and students virtually simultaneously. This has been another hurdle for teachers to overcome. During these challenging times, I realized that the computer I am using is not as effective because when meeting my students on Zoom, I found that I am lagging and they are having a hard time hearing me. This is why I am asking for a more powerful laptop. By getting a more powerful and reliable computer, then I can implement digital tools into my virtual classrooms, meet with my students on Zoom without lagging, create video content for teaching, communicate with both students and parents, and find valuable digital resources and tools. By having an effective laptop, I will ensure that my students will benefit from my instruction during my teaching. I will better assist them both synchronous and asynchronous so they will acquire the necessary reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills they need to be successful. Many of my students struggle with their reading and many of them are not native English speakers, while others are advance and gifted learners. Having this wide range of learners makes it imperative that I am effective and prepared. Please help me with getting a more powerful and reliable computer so I am a more impactful English Language Arts teacher.
