  • Second Graders Need Color

    Funded Apr 4, 2025

Yipee! THANK YOU so much! I am thrilled that with your generosity, my class will be able to create colorful projects that show their imagination and creativity!! We couldn't do this without your support! I am absolutely overjoyed that you provided these materials for my class! Room 6 sends, a giant-sized, heart-felt thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fierro

  • Microscope Investigation

    Funded Jan 16, 2025

We were so excited to receive our microscopes and prepared slides! The kids in room 6 have been going back to look at butterfly wings, legs, and antennae at our science center. They were very interested in the locust because they had not heard of that bug before. Today we investigated the dragon fly slides. One of my students is especially fascinated and says he is going to become an entomologist. I asked him what that is? He said a bug scientist. He said he has gone home and looked up locusts on google.

To begin our investigation, I taught a small group how to use the microscopes and they became the professionals and then they each trained a friend. Then those friends each trained another friend and before we knew it, the whole class got to become scientists. We have even had yard supervisors stop by to see what the kids were looking at. They were so impressed by the clarity, and ease of viewing specimens. The kids were so excited when they said our class is the coolest.

We have many more slides to view and will be using them in our science center for the rest of the year. I am going to invite kids to bring in specimens from the playground during the next few weeks. Room 6 is truly grateful for your generosity, without it, we wouldn't be so excited about the "small world around us".”

    Mrs. Fierro

  • Reading Engagement Materials

    Funded Aug 15, 2022

Room 11 students are becoming readers! Their favorite books are the Piggy and Elephant collection that you so graciously provided! We use sour slide cards daily which helps all of my beginners stay focused and on track! We have also been using our magnetic wands and markers to find the long vowel words in the texts. My students are more engaged and actively participation has increased. We are hearing more fluent readers and students who are able to hunt down words following a phonemic sound. I am so proud of them and so thankful to you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fierro

  • Second Grade- Future MyAuthors

    Funded Jul 18, 2022

The students in room 11 are writing daily in the journals you provided. We have monthly calendar topics to choose from, we do directed drawing and directed writing assignments, and we have Friday Free Choice when they can tell me anything on their mind. Our superintendent came to observe class one day and told our principal how impressed he was that each child has a collection of their writing in their own personal journal. He commented that room 11 appears to be better writers than most second grade classes.

The kids are enjoying writing with the supplies (crayons, markers, and pencils) that you provided. They are now trained on how to sharpen their pencils in a quick and quiet fashion. They love to use the coloring materials and express their thoughts in their projects.

Thank you again for providing these materials to all of the kids in room 11! We are truly blessed to have your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fierro

  • Wigglebottom Carpet Needed

    Funded Aug 24, 2021

Room 11 and I are so very thankful! We use the amazing carpet you provided every single day and multiple times a day! We enjoy our carpet space during morning calendar time- we sing our monthly songs, practice using our hundreds chart, and enjoying finding math patterns!

Later in the day, all 25 kids join me for phonics practice and direct instruction at the easel. The kids enjoy having their own personal space and variety of ways that I excuse them back to their seats (by the color or shoe laces, or the style of shirt, or by the color of the carpet space they are sitting on.

In the afternoon we join together to hear our chapter books- that teach kids to love fluent reading and develop reading endurance.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fierro

  • A Colorful 2nd Grade Day

    Funded Dec 29, 2020

Thank you, we have been busy back in room 11. Half of my students are in person and enjoying the supplies you provided. They have enjoyed the water color set tremendously! They get so excited when they enter the room and see the kits, their water cups, and their paper on their desks. I surprised them by teaching them about crayon resist. They wrote their spelling word by pressing hard with white crayon. When they painted over it, the word "magically/scientifically" appeared.

They also use their marker kits daily. Each child has their own set so that germs are not spread. They love having skinny markers and the larger size also. We use them to write our spelling words in three colors. Work is so much more fun when it is colorful!

I appreciate the contruction paper and the shelves for organizing it. It makes me feel so much better to have the colors seperate and easy to find. I can also see the colors I am running low on before it is too late.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fierro

In hybrid, there is no sharing of materials so each child must have their own set. I am currently lacking a supply for each child. Students will use these supplies daily at their seats and keep them for only their own personal daily use. We will do directed drawings on a weekly basis and at centeractivity time, students will stamp their spelling and high frequency words, and we will use a variety of contruction papeer based holiday projects. Second graders love to water color their spelling words for practice time.
