Learning with Literature
Funded Feb 26, 2017Thank you so much for the wonderful donation of literature to our classroom. The students are loving the class set of books that we got "Love That Dog", as we just started reading them this week for our poetry unit. To be able to see poetry in other forms, such as literature, as opposed to just poems hung on the wall, or in a textbook is a great way to engage our students. Students will be using what we learn through that book about poetry to write their own book of poems. The students are very excited, and I know they will turn out amazing.
Thank you also for the many pieces of literary works from Dr. Seuss. They really helped to engage our students in the world of Dr. Seuss and to learn that they are more than just a picture book or a book for a preschooler. By having these books to learn from, they were able to write very compelling essays about literature and the themes that you can find in them or character traits you may come across.
Thank you again for your generosity. It truly means the world to us.”

A Shelf is a House for a Book
Funded Oct 7, 2016Dear Sponsors,
Thank you so much for donating to our classroom so many wonderful books! My students are so excited to get so many new books, but also classics that they have heard so much about. We have been really focusing on the reader's workshop teaching this year. Students are encouraged to read books that are at their level, and using those books to show evidence of their standards. For example, this week, we are learning about main idea. Within their given book, they are able to find and share what their main idea is.
I also am excited to know that students have nonfiction text to read. So often, students are able to pick up fiction books, not realizing how amazing nonfiction is. So, thank you! Thank you for making this happen and for supporting our classroom.”

Mrs. Hruska
It's Time For Some Time For Kids
Funded Sep 20, 2016Dear sponsors,
Thank you so much for your support in our classroom with donating Time For Kids. What a great way to teach the standards, and engage the kids! By having the ability to have conversations about real life situations and events that are currently happening in our world, students are able to learn, feel engaged, as well as use skills taught in class to show their understanding.
The current topics that we have received lately are amazing. One day we are learning about Pompeii, another day we are debating if professional sports players should make as much money as they do, and yet another day, we could be debating about politics. We have been using these magazines in our language arts groups while focusing on such standards as main idea, point of view, and plot. We have been using them at home and via our online classroom, where students are able to debate or give their reasoning behind why something should or should not happen.
So, thank you! We really appreciate it, and love the new way of learning that comes from these magazines.”

iPads - Making Research and Common Core Much More Fun!
Funded Nov 19, 2015Thank you so much for your amazing donation to our class. We use the iPads on a daily basis and to have even more for the students helps us to be able to use them even more. The students were so excited when I told them we now have six more iPads. They love being able to use them to reinforce grammar skills that were taught throughout the week, to research for our science biome project, as well as take quizzes on books that are read and much, much more.
We are so blessed to have such amazing people in our lives who want to help us and to watch us succeed. We truly are thankful!”

It's TIME for Some Time for Kids
Funded Sep 7, 2015Thank you so very much for donating to our classroom. The students have already begun receiving our weekly Time magazines and have fallen in love. They love the major story of the week, but truly love all the smaller stories as well. By reading Time For Kids, students are exposed to nonfiction text and are learning about things that are happening all around our world. Last week, we read a story about paleontologists. Many of the students were fascinated and it fit in perfectly with our science unit right now of "what is a scientist".
By allowing students to have this magazine, they are much more engaged and are excited to read. Some of the students in my class don't enjoy reading because they can't find a topic that suits them. But with these magazines, I am finding even those students who don't enjoy reading are finding a love.
Thank you again for your contribution. I am truly blessed to work in a community who wants to give our students the extras to help motivate them to learn.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hruska
iPads - Making Research and Common Core Much More Fun!
Funded Sep 10, 2014Thank you so much for such kindness and generosity! We have received our new iPads in the classroom and the students are so excited. We now have eleven iPads which means students can work in pairs to do research for our upcoming planet reports, we can run two centers at a time with each child having their own iPad to use for both language arts and math games, students can take accelerated reader quizzes, and we all have the ability to now look up information discussed in class when we aren't quite sure of the answer.
Thank you for bringing more technology in our class. It really means the world to us!”

iPads - Making Research and Common Core Much More Fun!
Funded Feb 10, 2014Words cannot explain how much it means to us that you have donated in order for our class to get mini iPads! Through your donation, we are able to have access to the internet at any moment when we weren't able to before. There are many reasons why we are so excited for these iPads, especially because they get to stay in our classroom and don't have to be shared with the rest of the elementary. By having these iPads, we are able to work in small groups for language arts and math, we can work in partners to do a new app called sock puppets to retell stories, or we can research for our Native American reports, biomes, or any other topic we want to learn about. Thank you again for your generosity! It means the world to us.”

Challenging Ourselves Mathematically
Funded Oct 28, 2013Thank you so much for your generosity! It means so much to us that you would want to help us out and purchase for us the Scholastic DynaMath. The students were very excited to receive the magazines and love working with a partner to learn and answer the questions. Many of them even love the challenge it gives them.
This magazine is full of many fun activities as well as stories that capture our attention and want to read and learn more. There are many activities that also incorporate real life situations. This month there is a story and math problem about the snow leopards vanishing, figuring out what year Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his speech, as well as teaching about origami and how it is tied to symmetry.
Thank you again for your donation. It means a lot to us and has brought us much joy and learning in our math group!”

Becoming What You Read
Funded Feb 18, 2013Thank you so much for the wonderful donation of books to our classroom. We are very excited to be able to dive into new books when we get together with our fifth grade reading buddies. We just finished our last book, Ramona Quimby, and will be finishing our last trimester of third grade reading my favorite book, Charlotte's Web!
I am so blessed to have such amazing parents, family, and anonymous donors who want to support students and especially my students. We are lucky to have the opportunity to read classic books and have the ability to do so with older students who can help us read, summarize, and be our friend.”
With gratitude,

Mrs. H.'s Book Club
Funded Mar 13, 2012Thank you so much for your donation to help our students be excited to read. By having a set of books that the students can read in a book club setting will not only help to teach the standards in a fun and exciting way, but also allow them to learn about new authors, try out stories they may not be familiar with, and be taken to places (through their imagination) that pushes them to want to read more.
Your generosity has given us six different authors to read throughout the school year. They will be able to become experts in literature circles and to be able to take those learned skills and use them throughout their lives.
Thank you so much...we really do appreciate it!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hruska
