My students are required to learn one of the following instruments: Recorders or Ukuleles. Covid has pushed one of those options off the menu, and I don't want them to go a year without learning to play an instrument. For some of them this will be the year before they get to play in a band. I want them to have the chance of understanding what it takes to learn and play an instruments and watch themselves grow. Unfortunately, they will not be able to take the instruments home in the case that we go virtual. We do ,however, have a program where they can learn to play either the Ukulele or Recorder online. The instruments that you will help provide our school will help my students grow as musicians and challenge them with an instrument that has a rich history. We are going to not only learn how to play some of the most basic chords on the ukulele which will be a challenge in itself, but we will also have a project where they must create their own song given the Chords that they will learn. They will also be doing a small research paper about where the ukulele came from and how it has evolved in the US.
