Button Maker Book Talks

Thank you so much for your support of my Button Maker Book Talk project. I am so excited to promote literacy on my campus and give students a creative outlet to share their favorite books with others. I can’t wait to share this center with my students and hear the discourse surrounding their wearable book reviews.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill Gates and 3 other donors.

Our button maker will provide students at our creation station with an opportunity to express themselves in both images and words. Students can illustrate their favorite parts of books, or select a favorite quote then create a button that can be worn or placed on backpacks. Through the process of creation, students will further internalize key components of the books they are reading. Buttons can focus on main ideas, specific characters, plot points etc. Station will include posters with elements of a story along with clear definitions of each. This project will also be an excellent way to promote literacy through the advertising of books that are available in the library along with a chance to open discourse among students about the books they are reading. ESL students will get a chance to practice oral language skills in a conversational environment while also practicing academic language.
