When our children understand and appreciate the differences that surround them, they will respect those differences more easily and not use them to divide. My goal as an educator is to teach my students to be proud of who they are, where they are from, their culture and family and to respect that everyone should be given that same opportunity. With that goal in mind, these books will make diversity the norm, to bring multiculturalism into a homogenous classroom or to reflect the students, their families, and their experiences in a more diverse one. A multicultural classroom library will teach students about diverse cultures and people and will promote acceptance of and respect for all humans.
