Though we all love Physical Education, many are struggling to stay motivated at home. Our class created this project to help boost our motivation. We discussed activities everyone would be interested in and put it to a vote. The winner: Jump roping. While some of us tried to get creative at home by using a robe tie or extension cord, our teacher deemed that those were not the safest options.
We need new jump ropes to keep us healthy and motivated. Jump ropes are very versatile pieces of equipment. They can be used with one person or a group. Jumping rope goes beyond the standard two-foot paced hopping. While some students will be learning the basics, others ready to advance, will be incorporating unique skills like crisscrossing the jump rope, turning the rope backwards, or one-foot hops. We will even attempt jumping rope on the move and double jumps. The best part is these activities can be done both indoors and out.
Aside from being entertaining, jumping rope serves as an excellent cardiovascular workout. It targets many muscles in the lower body such as quads, hamstrings, calves, and glutes. These help to increase the elasticity and resiliency of lower-leg muscles and reduce the risk of lower body injuries. It builds hand-eye-coordination and balance by strengthening the muscles around your foot and ankle joints. Research has shown that it can even help with preventing osteoporosis.
Jump ropes are safe and easy to use, they provide a full body workout, and are extremely portable. For now, they can be used socially distant, but will continue to benefit us for years to come. If we incorporated jumping into our physical education class, it will bring numerous health benefits and happiness to our program.
