My students are at a disadvantage from being competitive in higher education. Many are first time college applicants. Introducing science technology and math into the equation makes it even more difficult for our kids to not only pursue science degrees after graduating from high school, the mere idea of becoming scientists are avoided. Purchasing a 3-D printer and laser cutter and all materials needed for our Physics classrooms provide our at risk youth a future. Being able to purchase these tools will not only excite our students, and introduce a creative way of learning, a 3-D printer and Laser cutter will help our students learn about graphing, conversions, scaling, designing prototypes, planning and creating, and bringing those creations to life. Their minds will be opened for future contributions. Our kids who rarely make it out of the neighborhood will be able to see a world of advanced technology, which will introduce them to new possibilities. These technological tools will expose our students to a higher level of learning so they can become more knowledgeable, more independent, and more confident in seeking future careers as scientists for our future. High poverty neighborhoods don't get these opportunities; the cycle rarely ends unless we do something about it. If we are able to purchase the 3-D printer and laser cutter, we will be able to strengthen our students' minds, and attract future students who never realized their potential. This is only the beginning.
