My Mandarin students will read the book Three Coins by Russell Low and the book A Phoenix First Must Burn: Sixteen Stories of Black Girl Magic, Resistance, and Hope and will create a PowerPoint presentation project to compare and contrast between Chinese, Black, and Mexican culture or customs mentioned in the books. Students will read 2 chapters each week. Students will provide further research related to the specific Chinese culture or customs found in the book, compare/contrast with Black and Mexican cultures, and finally present the PowerPoint presentation to the class as the final project of the second semester.
