Funded Nov 8, 2023A heartfelt appreciation for making the PS 34 Donors Choose STEM campaign a success. Thanks to you, we were able to fully fund the $5766.34 LEGO Spike Prime Robotics request on National STEM Day. Your generous donations were met with matching grants from General Motors and the Young Sheldon show on CBS.
This winter and spring the 4th graders have been studying how to code using Scratch, programming developed for children by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The LEGO Spike Prime Robots software interface will extend all their learning with Scratch.
The 4th graders wrote thank you letters filled with deep appreciation. Students want you to know that they like LEGO robotics "because you use your imagination to build." They report that they enjoyed working with others and this kind of learning promoted "new friendships". They said it "combines creativity, suspense, challenge and exploration." It was not lost on them that these kinds of school experiences can be life changing, with this donation "a child might be a future robotics person." One student thinking about longevity said that the donation would help "our generation and many to come at PS 34." They are really looking forward to using the LEGO Spike Prime kits during the 2024-25 school year.
I am so grateful for your support. I know that the students will continue to do wonderful things with the new LEGO Spike Prime Robots and we look forward to sharing these projects with you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Crawford
