With the individual white boards, markers, and mini-eraser materials, my students will be able to share ideas quickly and easily while being separated across the room. It will encourage participation and help give everyone a voice at the same time, without being overwhelming. Students can write words or sketch notes to show their thinking, which gives them a creative outlet. It will also help me to quickly get a sense of students' understanding. That way I can "shift on the fly" and switch gears right away. I can meet my students where they are and cover what they need, to develop a deeper understanding of topics, instead of waiting a day or two for me to collect and review their responses. With the poster paper, my students can creatively design a way to express their learning. Most notably, I would use them for students to produce an informational poster about a colony during the early English settlements. We would then conduct a gallery walk where the kids' peers get to gather information from each other. Lastly, the blue paper strips are to help me label the room/floor, creating a print-rich environment. This is especially for my English Language Learners. I would love to have the English word, next to the Portuguese, next to the Spanish, etc. for things like the window, door, Chrome cart, etc. This might also foster a conversation about cultural differences, which is part of the curriculum for fifth grade as well.
