  • Safe Space for a Brain Break

    Funded Oct 17, 2024

I want to express my sincerest gratitude for your selfless donations to my latest project. Generous people like you are why there is hope for a brighter future and a better tomorrow.

My students were excited to see the materials for their safe space for a brain break. They eagerly assisted me with setting up the space because they knew it was specifically for them to be able to come in and relax while taking a brain break. The colorful rug made each of them smile along with the bookshelf I put a few of their favorite books on. The floor chairs became quite popular for students to just sit and complete assignments on their laptops. The soft lighting has been the icing on the cake.

The space makes a big difference in how their day goes here at school. They know they have a safe space to come and unwind, when necessary and we thank you all for that.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Griffin

  • Winter Storm's Saving Grace

    Funded Feb 8, 2024

I am taking this time to let you know just how amazing you are. You helped me to help my students in so many ways this school year by donating to this project I created. My students are greatly appreciative. Your selflessness has made many great days for students who sometimes feel no one cares.

The snacks come in handy for those mornings when a student would come in late and did not get a chance to eat breakfast in the cafeteria or the long days of testing when lunch would be backed up. Snacks were also good for a break at the end of the day after all energy had been exerted and students needed a little pick me up before the bus ride home.

The sanitary napkins were utilized for those "surprise" days for our young ladies and sometimes for those who did not have any at home. The girls were confident and comfortable to come to ask for what they needed without embarrassment.

Again we cannot thank you enough. Continue to make classrooms safe spaces for our scholars.”

  • Needed Necessity for Unfortunate Circumstances!

    Funded Sep 26, 2022

I would like to take this time to show my appreciation formally for your unselfish giving to our school community. The Lanier High School greatly appreciates the greatly-needed water donation.

Water is an essential element that all humans need to survive. The city of Jackson, Mississippi's infrastructure system recently was damaged and causing a limited supply of clean, available drinking water. The water was not even safe to use for basic activities such as washing hands or taking showers.

Your generous donation helped to quench students' thirst and help with hand washing as well.”

  • COVID, COVID, Go Away, Continuing to Fight Until May!

    Funded Jan 19, 2022

As we all know Covid-19 is not going anywhere, anytime soon. My students have been able to remain safe and mostly germ-free thanks to the kindness of this Donors Choose platform. Prevention from this horrible virus is still an important part of keeping everyone safe and healthy.

The students have hand sanitizer available as soon as they enter the classroom and at several stations around the room. Clorox wipes are at each desk for their use. Disposable masks are ready and available and disinfectant spray is used on surfaces, desks, computers, the printer, and chairs, between classes to help stop the spread. We are all working together to ensure we use these products effectively and efficiently.

Even though Covid is still here, the learning process must continue. With the generosity of Donors Choose, we are able to keep the learning environment safe so that everyone can remain healthy. Healthy students are Happy Students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Griffin

  • Live Labs for the Love of Interactive Learning

    Funded Dec 2, 2021

This year was the first year our 9th graders were able to experience a real-life science lab. The generosity of your donors made it possible for the students to have supplies to carry out labs they were previously only able to experience from a computer screen.

When we opened the boxes of materials and showed the students what was enclosed, their eyes widened with amazement. Some had never seen a petri-dish or prepared a slide.

The community our students live in has very limited resources. While in other areas, teachers have the option of asking parents to donate supplies or funds to complete lab projects, we do not have that option. Being able to actually show students how to prepare a slide and view different cells through the microscope was not only fascinating for the students, but for me as a teacher as well.

Our students really appreciate this opportunity to conduct labs and complete hands-on experiments. Learning has come alive for them and we all are forever grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Griffin

  • Pandemic Printing Access

    Funded Nov 22, 2021

The classroom printer has enabled me and my students to have printed resources when needed without having to wait. We were the only persons who used the printer, so the transfer of germs was minimal. I required each student to use hand sanitizer before retrieving any material from the printer.

My students were able to learn to use the printer to make copies of notes and other resources. I even taught them the feature of turning two pages to one page with print on the front and back of the page. They were excited when I was able to give them printed resources in color.

Having an in-classroom printer to print materials was very convenient for me and my students. When the internet was down or someone did not charge their computer the night before, I was able to print whatever materials needed for that day and the classroom lesson could go on without any interruptions. Special Education teachers have a lot of paperwork for Individualized Education Plans and having the convenience of this printer allowed me to print notices for meetings and necessary data for the folders. We are very appreciative of the Donors Choose platform for making this possible.”

  • Project Safe Return 2021

    Funded Jan 1, 2021

I want to thank you for your generous donations to my project, "Project Safe Return". Teaching during this pandemic has had major challenges. I appreciate your generosity in helping me and my students to overcome just a few of those challenges. As you could imagine, when we were told we would be returning to in-person learning at our school buildings, I was concerned about the safety of my students and myself. I survived having Covid-19 and spent 7 days hospitalized in November 2020. I knew safety measures and precautions had to be in place in my classroom to ensure we all remained safe and healthy.

The hand sanitizer, face masks, disinfectant spray, wipes, kleenex, headphones, and desk sneeze guard were materials that I desperately needed to ensure the safety of my students and myself. Thanks to all of my donors, and this platform, I was able to receive those items at no out-of-pocket cost to me or my students.

Before my students enter my classroom, I have wiped down all desks and surfaces with antibacterial wipes and sprayed disinfectant spray on everything. Upon student arrival, each student is given hand sanitizer to clean their hands and a fresh face mask. They are seated in the same seat daily and spaced apart for social distancing. For safety measures, my students remain with me throughout the school day, even when they are virtual with other teachers. To keep the noise level down and so everyone can hear their teachers, as well as me, teaching other students virtually, the headphones provide the necessary noise reduction and privacy needed for us all. My desk sneeze guard provides protection for me and the student when a student needs to approach my desk for assistance or questions.

This platform and my donors are Heaven sent. You all have made this school year truly amazing and safe. Continue to keep up the awesome work. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. My students and I have enough materials to remain safe until the end of the school year. We will continue to stay safe using the sanitizer, face masks, kleenex, headphones, and sneeze guard even through till next school year.

**P.S: I attempted to upload photos, however, I was not able to at this time. Hopefully, I will be able to later and you can see the smiling faces of my students and the items put to good use. **”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Griffin

Each of my scholars has diagnosed learning disabilities and read significantly below grade level. The headphones will be utilized by all of my students as they complete assignments with read-aloud accommodations. Each of my scholars learns at a different pace and it will be imperative for each person to have their own personal set for safety reasons. The sneeze guard for the teacher's desk is imperative to protect me as well as the students. Personal hand sanitizers, disposable masks, and wipes will help to eliminate germs in the classroom without students sharing items.
