  • Hands on Letter Learning for K- Students

    Funded Aug 26, 2024

My students and I have tremendously benefited from the funding of this project.

As a class we have been using the materials (magnetic letters) on cookie sheets with a copy of letters A-Z as a template. Using the UFLY program to teach, each student can manipulate the letters during each lesson to practice letter sounds, spell words, or practice letter naming.

The lined wipe boards have been beneficial to have for multiple subjects for each child yo use.

Each student has been thrilled to have their own tray or wipe board to use during the day.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Apsley

  • Letter Tiles for Eager Learning Kindergarteners to Use at Home

    Funded Dec 7, 2020

Thank you for supporting my project this school year. I was able to order word family books and sight word books to share with my students. Each week I did 1-2 different word families during my whole group reading. The students listened to the books and wrote the words down from each word family, each week. I was able to do the same idea with the sight words. I read a book each week and the students wrote down the sight words that they heard in the story.

The letter tiles that I had ordered were unavailable, apparently other teachers had the same idea that I did. I ordered several book titles from Scholastic to support Social Emotional Learning, Black History Month, Classic stories to read and some newer titles that interest the students. I was able to order these books from Scholastic in place of the letter titles so it worked out for all. The students have especially enjoyed learning and doing SEL(Social Emotional Learning) this school year. I started doing breathing exercises during morning meeting when we were virtual, and continued during our hybrid model.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Apsley

These supplies will work hand in hand at home for virtual learning and at school for hybrid learning. My students are learning their letters, letter sounds, sight words and how to read this school year. The letter tiles will give the students endless learning opportunities at home to learn how to read and spell words. My students enjoy when they are offered opportunities to engage and use their hands to learn. The books will be available for the students to take home to read themselves, read to a teacher via zoom, or listen to a teacher read during remote learning. Once the students have heard the stories they can use the letter tiles to spell the words. The books will be placed in the book holders while not in use in the classroom. Both at school for hybrid learning and at home for virtual learning my students will benefit from the dual purposes of using the letter tiles and listening and reading the books.
