Today's educational climate had already presented itself with numerous challenges to meet student needs and provide them a high quality education; however, the COVID-19 pandemic has elevated these challenges to new heights which include a remote learning environment. Providing remedial intervention instruction within a virtual learning classroom is extremely difficult especially when the instructor does not have access to necessary technologies needed to deliver high quality instruction. When presenting intervention instruction, the instructor works with several small groups, each at its own instructional level, each using different materials, and very often, these groups are being taught in one classroom at the same time. In order to correctly implement remedial intervention programs to these learning support students, a second monitor and a doc cam would allow the instructor to deliver the most appropriate materials to each individual group at the same time to best meet their academic needs remotely. For example, during my second period class, I provide academic interventions to two 8th grade reading groups and one 7th grade math group. Each group requires different materials at several instructional levels to remediate their various academic deficits. I'm basically teaching three groups and two different subjects at the same time. A doc cam and a second monitor would be greatly beneficial to delivering instruction in this manner as this technology would allow me to quickly and efficiently display varied printed materials and also demonstrate how to solve problems and use manipulatives, when needed, when presenting lessons. Thank you for alleviating some of the challenges of the virtual learning environment. My students and I greatly appreciate your support during these challenging times and we look forward to getting back into the classroom.
