Calculating Our Way Through Middle School
Funded May 3, 2022We (my Co-Teacher and myself) greatly appreciate the support that was received in order to provide our students with a class set of calculators for the upcoming school year.
Our students are in the 6th and 7th grade and the use of calculators gives them the opportunity to solve math equations and problems with much more ease. As we explain to our students many times, "the calculator will not give you the answer to the problem, but it can assist you in calculating long problems much faster." Some of these 6th and 7th grade math problems can be long involving many steps. If the students understand the process that is needed to solve the problem, then the use of the calculators puts many of our students minds at ease when calculating.
Again, thank you all for your support and dedication to assisting our classroom! All of our students are excited and eager to learn this year!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Sagliocca

Funded Dec 1, 2020First off I would like to thank you all for supporting my project. My students and I are very grateful!
To give you a little information on myself, I am a 6th grade, ICT Math Teacher. Teaching math from home on a computer is not always ideal. It can become challenging to type out equations and model the correct steps for students without being able to write on a board. My Co- Teacher and I tried to teach using a white board and present it in the camera screen of our computer, however, that was not always successful- trying to hold the board, shift it so it was properly seen in the camera, talk from behind the board. Its not the best tool and especially when teaching an ICT class we have many different levels of math students and we need to make sure to reach everyones needs and abilities.
Remote teaching and learning this year has been a challenge for many, and I have been looking into technology that could help make this transition a bit more feasible for the time being. There is nothing like teaching a school building with a classroom full of students, however, with the new document camera we were able to at least implement some of the same teaching techniques we use in the building. I am now able to write on a worksheet or a white board and it is projected onto my computer screen which makes this much more useful for students to follow along with us and see the board.
My students miss being in the classroom, however, they are grateful to see their teachers on the computer! They feel much more comfortable learning from home now that we have a tool that can help us provide even better instruction from home!
Thank you again to all of our donors! I am excited to share some pictures with you all.”
