Look It Up!
Funded Dec 27, 2022I would like to thank you for fully funding our project and getting us our class set of Spanish/English dictionaries. These dictionaries are an essential tool for our classroom that consists of mostly students that have either recently immigrated to our country or others who are still learning English as a second language. As ELL students, using their home language to make connections is essential to their success in reading. The class set of dictionaries allows every student to have a personal translator at their fingertips.
Students consistently use the dictionaries during reading instruction to look up unknown words. The translation, along with explicit instruction in multiple meaning words, allows students to define words in context and deepen their understanding of what they are reading. Students also use the pronunciation key to help them understand the phonetic skills needed for properly pronouncing the words they look up.
The students eagerly use the dictionaries throughout the day and are excited to increase their vocabulary and language skills. I am excited to see the dictionaries put to good use throughout the day.”
With gratitude,

Technology at Their Fingertips
Funded Dec 17, 2020I would like to once again thank each and every one of you for making "Technology at their Fingertips" a reality. Adding eight Amazon Fire Tablets to our classroom has made a big difference in how students learn. Students look forward to entering the classroom early so they can use applications such as Boom Learning to practice skills we are working on in class. Students have also used the tablets to complete interactive activities on Nearpod; using prerecorded lessons, videos, and games to enhance their learning. In addition, other applications such as Quizziz, IXL, and Flipgrid have allowed us to increase our use of technology on a daily basis.
My students love the idea of learning on a "tablet." Although they realize the importance of the activities, the applications seem more like a fun game to play than an assignment related to state standards. That excitement is evident as they compete to see who will use the tablets on any given day.
Students who are struggling readers are the most excited about our new tablets. Using applications that provide immediate feedback has allowed these students to excel in a nonthreatening environment that encourages academic growth.
Thank you again for your generous contributions! "Technology at their Fingertips" has impacted the lives and learning of all my students.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hernandez
