Bring Stories to Life!
Funded Dec 2, 2020One of the things I love best about teaching kindergarten is reading stories to my students. It is amazing to watch children, who sometimes seem to be in constant motion, settle in and enjoy listening to a story. I also enjoy the round of applause I often receive at the end of the story.
During virtual learning that magic disappeared. When I tried to read stories from books that I collected from my school building, students were unable to see the pictures clearly. I began finding stories on YouTube, but the students did not respond to hearing them the way they usually do when I read to them. So I decided to ask for a document camera.
Your generous donation allowed me to get a document camera and now I am able to read to my students and have them see the pictures up close. They are more engaged and enjoy listening to stories read by their teacher!”

Funded Nov 25, 2020When I requested a second screen my main purpose was so that I would be able to see all of my students at once. I am using Google Meet to hold class. One of the problems with Google Meet is that you can not see all of the participants if there are more than about 12 people. Then if I wanted to share my screen, I would have to switch back and forth between tabs to manipulate what I was sharing and seeing my students. I quickly learned how to split my screen, but then I could see even less of my students.
My students are 5 and 6 years old; it is very difficult to hold their attention in real life, harder to do so virtually, and even more difficult when I can't see them to call on them or redirect them. So I believed that a second screen would help with student engagement and learning.
The second screen I received from your generous donation has done this and so much more! Now I can see all of my students at once. Lessons flow much easier because I am not constantly switching between tabs to see my students and manipulate my screen. Students are no longer sitting unseen, unheard and uninterested. I am able to interact with all of my students throughout the day. In addition, I have become more adventurous with all the things I can do during virtual instruction. I have taught my students how to sign on to virtual worksheets that I have assigned and I can see them working in real time. None of this would have been possible without a second screen.”
