I believe that reading is the foundation of all learning. Since my students are English learners, a novel study will help my students build their comprehension skills as well as their speaking and discussion skills. With novel studies, we focus on all of the domains that are important for EL students: reading, speaking, listening, and writing. Additionally, the theme of Esperanza Rising is discrimination due to race and social class. I envision many lively discussions about this book, and I cannot wait to guide my brilliant and sweet students through it!
