This year has been unlike any other. With that comes so much uncertainty for the future. My 5th graders have taken solace in finding adventure, fun, and safety in between the covers of books. With these new books, my students will be able to fall in love with new characters, adventures, and stories! With the constant change of schedules (in-person, remote, hybrid) having a constant of our library would greatly impact and help my students. Every book that I have given to my students is cherished and treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. I have watched them over the past few months of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. These books were all chosen with this in mind. My students will be able to choose books that give them windows or mirrors into others' lives. A big theme for us this year is empathy, and there is no better way to learn empathy than through stories. My students will be able to choose books that interest them, which is the best way to increase their ability to read. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with literature.
