Every student loves to make something they can actually use. Providing a ceramics program teaches students the attention to detail and craftsmanship to create something that will withstand the firing process and be food-safe and completely functional. Who doesn't want to make their very own ice cream bowl?? Wheel-throwing pottery can be one of the most challenging skills many of these students will have ever attempted. It requires determination and perseverance to master the wheel, which makes the final product that much more rewarding. Students will be able to experience failure and see their increased effort result in ultimate success, a lesson that will transfer to many other aspects of their lives.
