Although my students are resilient in the face of adversity, many of my students always tell me that they are not a reader and that they think reading is boring. Any opportunity that they have to opt out of reading, they will take it. To me, it just means that my students have not found the book format and genre that they love yet. Earlier this year we did a book tasting activity, and my students loved that opportunity. When I saw that, I thought to myself that my students do enjoy reading, but they are often exposed to books that they do not like to read. Currently, my library is small, yet it has helped students read more. Your contribution will expand my library to best meet my students' interests and foster a love of reading. That is why I have selected novels that will spark their interests and enable them to see themselves as changemakers. Furthermore, the selected books help broaden their perspective and understanding of the world. I want them to get used to reading on a daily basis too. Reading is reading. It does not matter if it comes in the form of a news article, webtoon, manga, or a graphic novel. As long as my students are reading, I want to celebrate that and encourage them to keep reading.
