  • Watch My Calculator: Now You Try

    I thank you so much for your donations towards a document camera for use from my home during virtual learning.

    During the covid 19 pandemic The Allentown school district closed to virtual learning in March of 2020. I was using zoom to meet with students. Using only zoom I was unable to demonstrate to my students how to solve math problems. I knew that if I could use a document camera to demonstrate, things would feel a little more like we were in a classroom. I was not allowed to take a document camera home from my school.

    Here is where my first project on DonorsChoose started. I was able to easily pick out a document camera to meet my students' needs. My students enjoyed having me demonstrate solving math problems using the document camera. My students would rather watch me than an internet video of a stranger solving math.

During quarantine, students have borrowed technology from the Allentown School District that is preloaded with an electronic TI-84 calculator. What a great tool! However, I need to use a tangible TI-84 and model the keypad entry for my students. With their ability to see the keypad buttons and sequences, all math and science students will access a more complex calculator with the goal to increased academic success in the classroom.

About my class
