Currently our classroom has one electric coil hot plate. Having actual scientific-use hot plates will allow my students to conduct experiments that require them to heat materials instead of watching them done as a demonstration. Science should be about hands-on learning. Right now my students aren't getting that. Anything that requires heat I do myself, as the hot plate we have is hard to use to heat glassware and I don't think it is safe for them to use. Having flat hot plates with multiple settings will allow my students the opportunity to do more lab work themselves.
