Our students tend to see no value or worth in education or themselves. Their home lives can be discouraging. Middle school in general is a tough time for self-discovery, building healthy relationships, practicing life skills like organization, and dealing with the pressures of technology and digital media.
The materials I have chosen will switch our focus from the negativity of the pandemic and enhance the emphasis of positivity, hope, kindness, good character, resilience, and the goodness that can be found in the world and within them.
The books are for the library and will be promoted through the reading classes. The staff will be notified that these are available. The characters and themes of these new and popular age-appropriate books are geared toward the intent of this project. Spreading positivity like a disease through reading!
The Cricuit Maker will be used to create positive messages that students can stick on their personal items as a reminder of their importance, their worth, and to stay positive no matter the circumstances. The pandemic may have flipped this world upside-down, but we are going to be determined to find the silver linings, smile more, work together, show kindness, and be a light in a time that we could easily get lost in negativity. We can also use this for messages in classrooms, hallways, buses, cafeteria, restrooms. The goal is for students to see a positive everywhere they turn!
The notebooks will be used during our end-of-the-day announcements for them to keep a daily positive note. (Ordering as many as the seller would allow and will fund enough for each student another way.). Research shows that journaling and reflecting through writing has a large impact on the happiness and joy we feel when we see it as a choice.
Thank you for your consideration!
