Social emotional health has always been an important part of the core curriculum at our school, and is needed now more than ever. As the school counselor it is my job to ensure that all children learn the coping skills necessary to guide them through the difficulties life can bring. Teaching social and emotional skills can help students become more resilient, which helps them deal with the effects of trauma or adverse effects in their lives. Research shows that teaching these skills leads to better academic achievement and improved behavior.
