  • Classroom Cozy Corner

    My students are thrilled with their new cozy corner. When they need a little breather they can grab a book and sit down under our classroom tent. They absolutely love the books in our classroom library. Every month we select a new book to read together as a class for Socio-emotional learning!

    We first begin with a picture walk of a book as we go over the visuals together. As we read the book we highlight as a class the keywords that stand out to us about the story. We always focus on answering "wh" questions to tackle and meet their IEP goals.

Providing students with a cozy library corner will allow them to immerse themselves in reading. Reading is essential for learning. My cozy corner is more than just a library where my students can sit back and read. It's a place for them to socialize and increase their social skills. It's a place for them to take breaks when they need one. Working with students with Autism and other developmental disabilities, it's important to create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. I believe this cozy corner will do just that. It will give them a chance to read at their own pace. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. These books encourage individuality, multiculturalism, and family. They target socio-emotional development. My students will be able to select a book on their own, sit back, relax, and read.
