Early childhood is one of the most exciting times in education! It is a time to play, explore, learn, and get messy! Engaging multiple senses makes connections in the brain that lead to more complex learning. In my classroom, my students normally love to explore with their senses using sand, water, pebbles, colored rice, playdough and many other consistencies. Unfortunately, during the global health pandemic, my students are not able to experience traditional sensory play due to health and safety guidelines.
My students will greatly benefit from a Color Changing Light Table because it engages multiple senses, and the Color Changing Light Table will help fill in the gaps of sensory learning during the global health pandemic. They will also be able to expand their knowledge of math, science, and literacy with the purchase of translucent numbers, letters, imagination builders, and crystal climbers. Research shows that in young children, sight is the most stimulated sense. Children need exposure to brightly colored toys as early as infancy to help develop their sense of sight.
Additional advantages of a Color Changing Light Table are fine motor and pre-writing skills will increase due to added interest of the activities being illuminated by the Color Changing Light Table. Research indicates that students will stay engaged longer at a Color Changing Light Table.
I plan to use the Color Changing Light Table daily in my classroom. My students will be able to practice their fine motor skills by placing small items on the Color Changing Light Table. They will also be able to increase their hand-eye-coordination by tracing curved and straight lines. The possibilities are endless with a Color Changing Light Table and my students are excited to begin exploring their senses in a healthy and safe way during a global pandemic.
