E-Sports gaming is a true phenomenon right now. Once an obscure niche activity, this hobby has exploded on college and university campuses across the country leading to scholarship opportunities and new majors of study. In response, many high schools districts have now joined in the fun to form teams of their own and host tournaments pitting their teams against neighboring districts. Exposure during these tournaments has directly led to players being recruited to colleges with scholarships offers. I would love for my students to have another pathway to college and future success. My students are bright and highly capable of succeeding once they enter college. However, too many of them don't consider the possibility of college to be realistic so they settle for entering the workforce or taking a couple of classes at the community college when they can find the time and money to do so. This should not be accepted. It is my fervent belief that they deserve to have the same opportunities as any high school student regardless of where they live. The initial cost of getting the equipment necessary to field a team is too high for many districts like mine scrambling to afford books and basic supplies. Each team is comprised of five players, therefore requiring five gaming dedicated computers. The cost for this type of setup might seem negligible when considering the size of school district budgets, but it simply unattainable for an inner city district like mine. My students would be able to enter these tournaments (or even host one of their own!) with the computers requested for my project. They would be able to compete on a level playing field and enjoy all the benefits of success that they would earn.
