Some deaf children never experience the zoo or a farm - we can "visit" a farm on a tablet, but to feel, touch and manipulate a goat, even a little toy goat - is something that help's a deaf kiddo learn and remember. Writing about our exploration and reading helps us remember our new experiences and that translates to long term memory and usable language - for higher English reading and writing skills! English is tough without hearing sounds, and a lack of background knowledge. Experiences with things in our world that can be labeled helps our background knowledge grow!
