Creativity and Math: BFFs
Funded Dec 18, 2024The students have been loving the new laminator and Cricut machine, thank you so much! We have been able to laminate student work to display on the walls, and the children were so excited to see if their work was "made the cut" for wall placement (I encouraged them to be as creative as possible while they were working so the wall-art would be visually engaging). We have also been using the laminators to laminate some "Know Your Rights" cards for any of our community members who may be affected or know someone who is affected by immigration policies. I have even had other teachers ask me to laminate some student work for them as well, like the hand-made bookmarks made in English class/Advisory, which has allowed me to brighten the days of students not in my classes as well.
The Cricut machine has helped my Leadership students spruce up their bulletin boards, posters, and school-wide activities, and it has also provided them with an opportunity to learn a new skill and use technology that they likely wouldn't be able to afford to learn/use in their everyday life.”

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Funded Aug 26, 2024My students are LOVING the pictures! I've been able to set up two bulletin boards in the hallway, both full of student photos. Every couple of weeks, I spend my conference period selecting and printing photos from various school events, like Spirit Weeks, the annual Haunted Hallway, Door Decorating, and more.
Every time I hear a kid tell their friends, "hey, that's me!", I know that I have y'all to thank for the smile that puts on my face. The students are always so excited to see themselves represented on the school wall, and get even more excited when they find out that they can keep the photos at the end of the semester. Many students even ask me if I could print extra copies so that everyone in the picture can have their own. Thanks to y'all, I don't have to worry about the cost of that extra ink and can print as many as they'd like.”

Make Algebra Engaging and Interactive!
Funded Aug 25, 2024My students are loving the new Towers of Hanoi. The old sets were falling apart, missing pieces, and did not inspire use or joy. These new sets are incredible! Not only are they bright and new, but they also have more layers than my old sets, which give the students additional levels of difficulty to work through.
One of my students, a 9th grader in Algebra 2 (a junior level course), has really taken a shining to the Hanoi tower. The students get one 5-minute break during every block period, and most of them will usually spend that time on their phones. This student, however, wanted to use the towers during this break, determined to solve each level as fast as possible. Now, he will eagerly explain the pattern to anyone who will listen; it always makes me smile.
We may be past the unit on Sequences, but I know that having these towers in my room will continue to bring some mathematical fun to my students for a while yet.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Strehlow
