As students get involved in a story, they can start to relate to the characters and the situations that the characters are involved in. They can see how the characters were able to work through problems that may help them to work through problems in their own lives. The other aspect for the reading material that I chose was for my students to learn about history. It is more exciting to read a historical fiction versus a text book. They understand and enjoy reading this type of material. They love learning about the history.
