I am using this project to update my classroom library to more accurately depict the lives and cultures of my students. I want my students to be able to see themselves, and others, reflected in the books kept in our classroom library so that they understand the value of themselves as an individual. My goal is to continually create a culturally inclusive classroom and build empathy. A child who reads will be an adult who thinks. In addition to seeing themselves reflected in the books in my classroom, I also hope that my students will be able to view other cultures and ways of life through these books. In addition to the books I have selected, I have also added technology use tools such as blue light blocking glasses and a wireless mouse for each student. Because we are in a new educational space with technology, my students have their own laptops. Many have difficulty using the trackpad mouse (and clickers), and there has also been some eye and brain strain from constant blue light from the screen. I find these tools to be extremely helpful for myself, and want to set each student up for success by providing them these additional tools to use!
