Help My Students Grow Their Little Hands and Minds!
Funded Nov 25, 2020We started the 2020-2021 school year with the COVID-19 pandemic still in front of us. Our students were now being asked to do more since the pandemic was well on its way, we needed to adapt to this new normal. Occupational therapy (OT) is a special education related service that is mostly hands on. It is generally considered best practice to have a student in front of us to provide therapy. Well, that was very difficult given the fact that we were in a pandemic. Unfortunately, most of our students are living in an under resourced and low income community in the Bronx. Some of our students struggled with having materials for the first part of the shutdown.
It is a very difficult task to ask parents who are already struggling as most of them work in industries affected by the pandemic to buy materials for their children. They are struggling to buy food, so class materials are not a priority. That is where YOU filled the gap. Our students who were in need were able to receive scissors, pencils, pencil grips, crayons, dry erase markers, worksheets, workbooks, playdoh and composition notebooks just to name a few items. These basic tools are monumental in the implementation of school based OT services in a pandemic. We would like to offer our greatest appreciation for the supplies that you so generously provided for our 340 students. Our students continue to use the materials on a daily basis. Again, we are forever thankful for the kindness and generosity that you have shown to your fellow little humans. THANK YOU.
