Diverse Classroom Library and Flexible Seats
Funded Nov 11, 2020Thank you so much for donating to my project! You helped me to create a diversified classrom library for my 4th graders at Andrew Jackson Elementary School in Nashville, TN. Due to COVID 19, my students ended up remaining virtual for the remainder of the school year which means that this year's students did not get to have hands on access to the materials and flexible seating. However, I did use the books for read alouds with my virtual students.
I feel very passionate about my students being able to use books as windows and mirrors where they can see others lives or see themselves represented. It was important to me to have authors and books in my classroom library that feature people of color, women, and those who are differently abled. Your funding enabled me to get many books to start a fabulous library for my students.
In addition to the books, you provided flexible seating for me to use in the classroom in my library and at their learning spots. This variety of seating options will help all students to find a way to learn that will help them be successful. Flexible seating has been provedn to be beneficial for students who have ADHD and focus issues. I am so excited for them to et in my classroom and be able to use these seats next school year!
It has been a strange school year, but I am just thrilled to have these resources to make my classroom inclusive for all students for next school year. Thank you for your generosity and willingness to invest in our public school kids! They have been amazing this year, even during virtual learning. They are making growth and learning and are defying the odds. Thank you for being a part of that!”
With gratitude,
