Young children, especially those with learning disabilities, NEED movement to be successful in their learning. movement can help children to learn non-verbal ways of communicating and to get to know themselves and their body When children explore through movement they work on perfecting several of their five senses. Movement can promote the development of increased memory, perception, language, attention, emotion and even decision making. For those children who struggle with controlling their behaviors, movement can play a huge role in helping them not only calm their bodies but also develope cognitive control and their ability to focus their attention. These materials will allow me to set up a space in my classroom where students will be encouraged to explore movement as needed. They will no longer be dependent on recess or scheduled trips to the sensory room to receive the sensory and motor in- put so many of them crave in order to besuccessful at learning.
