Due to Covid social distancing, I am teaching elementary art on a cart in classrooms. Limitations to using traditional art materials have altered lessons and changed how our students are experiencing art-making. My art students are very creative and enjoy constructing kiln-fired clay projects, however, this year sharable items must be adapted to individually packaged clay such as Model Magic. I love seeing the enthusiasm of my students as they learn about art, artists, creative expression, and take pride in sharing their art with family and friends. Both in-person and in-person remote learners will be using Model Magic clay to create a variety of pieces across seven grade levels: Monet frog sculptures with waterlilies, pinch pots and coil vases, dragons, fish, silly monsters, and sunflowers for a Vincent van Gogh still life. Working with 3D materials support development in the expression of ideas, fine motor functions, construction techniques, critical thinking, and creativity. As you can see, art is an important part of a child's well-rounded education. Thank you!
