I have been using my personal laptop to provide speech therapy to my students remotely. My DOE issued laptop makes it nearly impossible for me to effectively serve my students. The laptop crashed on a daily basis during video sessions and my students were left wondering where their teacher went. I was unable to hear/see students and they were unable to hear/see me, as well. I service students with Autism and always try to limit their frustrations as much as possible and to teach them to regulate their emotions. It proved to be so challenging to teach effectively without being able to see them and intervene when needed. My students became impatient (as would I) with the amount of time it took to load a shared screen or fix constant glitches. One silver lining is that I was able to teach about patience! These students have been through enough ups and downs, they don't need their typically fun and exciting 30-minute speech sessions to be filled with a wasted time of loading windows and glitching videos. Please help my students get a productive therapy session. My laptop is starting to fail on me as I am on it for full day remote sessions (8 live sessions a day). Any support you can provide will be SO appreciated by me and my students!
