Bring Student Drafting to Life With 3D Printing
Funded Sep 14, 2021This project has allowed me to introduce computer aided drafting to my students. We began by doing simple tutorials to show them how to navigate through TinkerCAD. I then gave students tasks to draw objects. I gave them tuning forks to draw and then we printed them on the printer. I also tasked the students to make wrenches that would fit a 15mm bolt. We then printed those on the printer to show students how they need to pay close attention to detail when drafting and designing their creations. Anytime I have the printer running students are asking what's being built and they have to go see it. They are mesmerized at just watching the printer move and seeing the objects made in real time. Thank you so much for allowing me to share this technology with my students because I think it is making them very interested in STEM careers.”

Funded Jun 25, 2021Thank you so much for giving classroom supplies to my students. They use their composition notebooks everyday. On some days they take notes in them and other days they record information from lab experiments. The students have used the markers for preliminary design pictures of their proposed experiments as well as coloring their finished project. The extra scissors have greatly helped on project days when 15 students are creating their own project at the same time. Some students need pens, pencils and erasers on a daily basis and these have certainly been of great use. Again thank you so much and your donation and it has truly brought about the curiosity and imagination of my students.”

Funded Jun 4, 2021Thank you so much for helping place lab materials in my classroom. The student's always prefer to do lab experiments and projects. With these supplies it has made that possible. We have learned about projectile motion by building ping pong catapults. We have learned about Newton's laws by building balloon powered cars. My students studied Hooke's Law by determining the elasticity constant of rubber bands. In this project they calculated how many rubber bands it would take to make a bungee for a water balloon and to safely drop it 6 meters without popping. Again thank you so much and your donation and it has truly brought about the curiosity and imagination of my students.”

Funded Jun 4, 2021Thank you so much for helping put these science demos into my classroom. The student's were amazed at how the thermal camera produces images of their surroundings. They used the camera to look at hot/cold spots within the classroom such as air vents and windows. I also have the gearbox demo right next to my desk and students love to take it and play with the gears. This demo is a basic transmission and I use this to teach them about gear ratios. Also included in your gift was the electric motor demo kit. This simple device has amazed many students. I also keep it next to my desk and they like to hook the wires up to the batteries and see the motor turn. They've also experimented with different batteries to see how it impacts the speed of the motor. The radiometer is also an interesting device that students had never seen or heard of. We took it and placed it in direct sunlight for students to see how the momentum of photons can be used to mechanically turn the blades on the inside of this device. Again thank you so much and your donation has truly brought about the curiosity and imagination of my students.”

Funded Jan 4, 2021I have been using the crazy circuits classroom kits with my electric circuits lessons. We began learning the basic concepts of electric circuits and flow of electricity. Once my students had a better grasp of the concepts we transitioned into 3 days of hands on circuit building using these kits that you provided. On the first day that my students saw the kits they asked "are these new?". I let them know that yes they were new and they were donated to us by a local company in order to help with our learning. My students were excited to be doing hands-on learning instead of paper worksheets. I was also excited because I mostly prefer hands-on lab activities. Each day I would give the students a daily challenge to build a circuit. Once they built the circuit, I would then tell them to experiment to find different ways to build the same circuit in a more efficient way. It encourages a lot of critical thinking as well as fine motor skills and attention to detail. I have also noticed that some students are now extremely interested in electronics and are seeking how they could one day find a profession in electronics. Based on what I seen so far these kits are a huge success and have reached many students who otherwise would have never had the opportunity to work with circuits. Thanks!”
