An Ear-resistible Approach to Building Math and Social-Emotional Skills

Funded Nov 23, 2020

I am very grateful for your generosity. I couldn't have done it without you and your donations. This laptop supported me in facilitating live instruction to my kindergarten class, lesson planning, collaborating with colleagues who are in the building and colleagues who are not. This laptop also helped me communicate with the families of my scholars, especially during parent-teacher conference. I was able to attend staff meetings, and professional development meetings. I was also able to attend Fun Friday's with my scholars and attend activities like Master-chef, and assemblies.

The most exciting part for my students in having this new laptop, is that I am able to break them into "breakout rooms" during live instruction and during Fun Friday's. They are able to share, talk, have virtual playdates and even cook, virtually, together. During the Social Emotional classes, they share how they are feeling, their thoughts, what they did over the weekend, their concerns, anticipations, their creativeness. They LOOOVE to share. They are not able to share in person, but because of the laptop donated to me, I was able to give them the opportunity and another avenue to share and be kindergarteners.

I would definitely say that they, the students, warmed up to this technology. They learned how to use the chat to respond, they learned how to use emoji's to express themselves and they learned how to upload pictures of their projects, homework and themselves to share with myself and their peers.

Thank you again for your generosity. Without you and your donation, my students wouldn't have had the opportunity to be themselves and share and learn so much. Much of that time, would have been spent on trying to work out of outdated laptops in the building and trying to figure out how to reach them without the many hiccups I encountered in the beginning of the school year.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Burgos
