This colorimeter will be used to take accurate measurements of the water samples in the aquaponics system that we are starting at Brantley Middle School. With an aquaponics system, fish and plants benefit from a symbiotic relationship in a closed system. To make sure that those fish and plants gain the most from each other, the environment of the system must be in perfect balance. Factors of the environment include the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, dissolved oxygen levels along with many others. If any one of these factors are out of perfect balance in the environment, the whole system will fail which will harm or kill the fish and the plants. With this instrument, the students will be able to keep track of the balance in the system to keep their fish and plants alive and healthy!
