The class sets of books will allow each student to have their own copy as they collaborate during literature circles. As my students read, discuss, and respond to books, they will be able to record their critical thinking and reflections in the blank booklets requested. Some skills that will be recorded are making connections, literary elements, questioning, vocabulary, and inferencing, just to name a few. Their responses can be written in word form or through illustrations. Literature circles allow students to "think about their thinking" and add to their schema as they construct meaning with their classmates. Literature Circles have been an amazing segue way for my students to increase their reading comprehension and fluency skills. It is during this time that my students are digging deep into their books and are blossoming as readers. My students are able to collect a deeper understanding of the book by having structured discussions with other classmates and through written and artistic responses. These skills can then be implemented later with any piece of literature my students may read at home or outside of school.
