A Counseling Suite Story - Part 2
Funded Nov 30, 2022Thank you donors for your generosity in providing my counseling office with needed technology supplies. Thanks to this donation I am able to print off critical and sensitive documents that are now only accessible to my office which ensures confidentiality. I can also print off social-emotional curriculum and therapeutic activities that provide skill building opportunities to support our students.
Students are most excited about the home/coffee shop experience these products (coffee table/rug) provide in my new and improved counseling suite. Students have said that this feels like a safe space to open up about their lives and unwind. In fact ...most students say that it's so comfortable and inviting now that they don't want to leave! This is all due to your gracious and giving hearts so we here at Jordan Community School thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Yoon

Funded Nov 23, 2020This project has offered lots of hope and support to my students. I have used these tools to guide my individual and group counseling development within a public school setting. My group therapy sessions focus on coping skills to address anxiety and depression. Through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy curriculum, student's are able to identify their "blue" thoughts and turn them into "true" or realistic thoughts. In the midst of a pandemic it is important that students learn how to get unstuck from negative feelings and move forward. I have also done lessons on social skills and how to communicate with peers in various stressful situations. Since distance learning began one year ago, students are relearning how to manage their feelings and engage within our new normal.
Within counseling, the absorption or reading of materials happens in a smaller group setting to process and apply skills learned for application in daily life. I turned a lot of concepts into virtual opportunities for students to showcase concepts highlighted in the curriculum. For example, I turned CBT interventions into therapeutic concepts displayed in virtual games, videos, and classroom activities. The bulk of my supplies increased my professional development to widen my net of interventions to address student crisis (social skills, depression, anxiety, isolation, loss, abuse, etc.).
I do utilize specific interventions from these books that assist me in creating research based inventions that are tailored to the specific social-emotional needs of my students . Through your generosity, students have had a positive reaction to these effective and interactive strategies. Students have commented on the usefulness of worksheets we complete and look forward to our discussions as they are engaging and interactive. I know these supplies are important and effective as students seek me out throughout the week to let me know they used a specific skill we discussed and what the outcome was. I can never say thank you enough for acknowledging the social-emotional support that students so greatly deserve. You have renewed my hope that it just takes a little help from someone to make all the difference!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Yoon
